Biography

After apprenticing with two landscape architecture firms shortly after obtaining my bachelor's degree, I earned my landscape contractors' license and worked for myself for over twenty years in Northern California. I took a break from design/build to earn my masters with an emphasis on cultural landscapes, community engagement, historic sites and preservation.

A family obligation and subsequent move to the South Bay meant completely retiring from design/build and start a landscape design career within a public agency, the third largest city in California. My emphasis was on plan reviews, green stormwater infrastructure asset management, and landscape design renovations within public rights-of-way. During this time, I became a certified arborist.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy gardening and cooking but also a full fledged California history nerd, always exploring our great state and learning about its culturally diverse landscapes.
